Gurpreet Kaur Bains, Bringing Meaningful Change to Brampton

Gurpreet Kaur Bains decided to run for Regional Councillor in Wards 2 & 6 in Brampton because she saw that there were many community needs and groups of people that were not being represented in Council. She wants to leverage the position of Regional Councillor to bring meaningful change to Brampton and to serve the needs of the community.

Bains was raised in Brampton by two working-class immigrant parents alongside her younger brother and sister. She is a lawyer by profession and has owned a small independent practice in Brampton for the past four years. As a lawyer, she met Brampton residents from many different backgrounds which she had to represent. This aspect of her professional experience is something that has prepared her to advocate for her constituents responsibly.

Through her professional experience, community initiatives, and campaign work, she has learned that most people’s concerns are the same. People want safe communities for their families, safe roads and a strong transit system, a striving economy, and a government that is trustworthy.

Bains’ top priorities as a Regional Councillor are crime prevention and community safety. She plans to work with the community and local law enforcement to provide youth with mentorship and education on anti-violence strategies, mental health, and skills development so that youth are equipped to deal with confrontation and hardship.

To address road safety in Brampton, Bains would like to modernize the city’s traffic lights system and implement traffic-calming methods to reduce speeding and gridlock.

To stimulate the local economy, Bains intends to collaborate with local innovation hubs, post-secondary institutions, and medical centres to focus on robotics, cybersecurity, and biotechnology as emerging job sectors in Brampton, thereby attracting foreign investment.

Bains also strongly believes in open communication with constituents. She wants to remain accessible to them, include them in the decision-making process and hire an independent auditor general so that they know how their tax dollars are being spent.

Bains is confident that her love for Brampton and passion for advocacy, coupled with her breadth of knowledge and experience, will allow her to enact the change that is needed to bring Brampton to its fullest potential within City and Regional Council. She hopes that her commitment to creating a safer and brighter future for Brampton resonates with the constituents of Wards 2 & 6. Remember to vote for change on October 22nd!

Bains loves the Caribbean community and would like to visit Trinidad for Carnival one year. You can find more information about Gurpreet Kaur Bains, and her full platform at www.votebains.com.
