The Poetic Word

Shattered Promises, Part I

What is love when you are no longer the sole dependent of services?

Photographer: JD Mason

What is love when you are no longer

The sole dependent of services?

Was the love only loyal to what you can do?

Does it include the full package?

Full of blessings & flaws as a person?

Will the love turn to hate when

Boundaries are set in stone.

Will ’NO’, ‘I got busy’

Be viewed as safety precautions.

Preventing meltdowns.

Or a challenge to the authoritative rule,

Unknown mysteries filled with harsh reactions.

Loss of power overruling considerations.
Were the fiery, passionate promises made?

Only during the honeymoon spells?

Would it remain true,

Or crumble like brittle pottery straight out.

From the oven instead.

Have years of survival and being taught to wait survived the freedom test?

Prayers of unlimited time become a burden.

A make-or-break to solid relationships

When the doors are finally opened.

A step back to reintegration is the final examination.

Questioning faithfulness, commitment, and loyalty,

Will it go down the drain?

Erasing memories made through the visits, phone calls,

And tears for appeals and restoration.

Cherishing hopes and dreams without restrictions.

To love defence mechanisms.

Promises made that may be genuine,

But the outside chapter

Can shatter unforeseen tribulations.
