The Poetic Word

Holding On

“Hoping loved ones will change and let go of their hardcore past.”

Photographer: Brock Wegner

A past that refuses to let go

Is like death’s grip on Lot’s wife

As they depart from

Sodom & Gomorrah.

Lifestyles bringing tainted riches,

Filling the earthly vessel with

Entities that feast on the greedy nature

Of humans.

A mortal mind would not be able

To control.

Ghostly beings shout warnings

But it was in vain.

Going through a closed door

Inside the canal

And goes out like a phantom itch

That refused to be scratched.

No matter how many resources

Being thrown.

No matter how many mentors

And community supports.

Not every human would break free

From leashes of clout & cash…

But that’s not excuse to cut down

Programs that have worked for the masses!

Prayer groups,

Spiritual advisors continue to press.

Hoping loved ones will change and

Let go of their hardcore past.

But like the temptation of tree of distorted

Knowledge,

Glances back.

Too longing stars

A pillar of salt formed inside the

Reluctant heart,

Who can truly compete with that?

Consequential thinking supposes

To strike fear,

But unusual punishment beyond time that

Had been served,

Is a recipe for non chalant behaviour

To arise

If there is no limit of pointing fingers,

But society refuses to take in.

So, they will feel the end results,

The everlasting impacts with no

Wisdom to go from there.

Holding on punitive measures like

A placenta

Feeding in life.

What you eat is what you are and form.

No one takes in what is served will

Discover.

Being extreme on either side

Won’t solve the problem.
